The Dreadfleet

Hey ladies and Gents. I finally have some photos of Dreadfleet. This has taken me a bit longer than I thought it would, but I am in no rush to get these done. I have completed the Dreadfleet side of the game (those are the bad guys if you are unfamiliar with the game itself) and I have started on the Grand Alliance (good guys). To paint the ships, I have been following the painting guide in White Dwarf 382. Onto the ships!

First up we have the Bloody Reaver.

Not going to lie, this ship was a pain. Don’t get me wrong, I like it, and I had fun painting it, but getting it to fit together and then fit properly onto its base was a small nightmare in its own right. But now that the ship is actually finished, I am happy with how it turned out. Moving on, we have my personal favorite, the Skabrus.

This is, so far anyway, my favorite ship to paint. I love Skaven, and I don’t get a chance to paint dead, decayed flesh very often. It was a small learning experience to get the skin to look proper, but I am happy how it came out. I am looking forward to the next time I can paint dead flesh. Maybe some zombies would be a fun project? Have to look into that. Next: The Curse of Zandri.

This is the latest ship I have finished, and it was a very enjoyable one to paint. The brighter colors were a nice break from the other ships, and those marble statues on the sides and front of the ship were also a treat. Onto The Black Kraken!

This was one of the fastest ship to paint and finish, and it still looks pretty darn nice. The metals were simply base coated, highlighted, washed, and then a final highlight. I tried to keep the metal looking a little used and abused, as the ship loves to destroy its foes at close range. And last but not least, The Shadewraith.

Another quick and easy ship to finish. The ship was a lot of fun, as I have never painted anything like this before. I attempted a bit of a reflection on the surface of the water, and when looking at it from a higher angle, it looks pretty cool.
