Gaslands
Back in 2015, Mad Max: Fury Road was released, a bombastic action film that I immediately fell in love with. I wasn’t a big fan of the series prior to its release, but the aesthetic, visual style, music, and story captivated me from the start. I’ve gone back and rewatched it dozens of times, and it’s one of my favourite films, easily up there with King of the Monsters and Dredd.
I was already pretty set on making some vehicles inspires by the movie when a friend told me about Gaslands, a table top game of post-apocalyptic vehicular mayhem, which seemed like the perfect excuse. I started with a handful of Hot Wheels cars, and did a bit of converting on each, swapping out some wheels to change the silhouette a bit, and adding some extra bits or armour plates.
Things really came together with the painting. The vehicle above is inspired directly by Max’s car in Fury Road after it’s stolen and refurbished by The Citadel and the War Boys. I tried to give each a unique look, while still having them fit together.
This was a fantastic project, and a nice change of pace from my usual work. I never actually got around to playing any games of Gaslands with them, but the process of creating and painting these vehicles was rewarding enough.
